A new podcast, including pasta, Scotch, and The Atlantic.
Mon 5th Mar, 2012 - by Lachie

We're back! Probably.

So some of you may have come here after hearing Dave and I talk with Kelli Brett on her radio show: "The Main Ingredient".

We had such a good time on real radio, we decided (with Kelli's generous encouragement) to get back into the whole podcasting thing. This week's recording is probably better than last week's, we were much less rushed and slightly more ... merry. This may have something to do with my new-found enthusiasm for all things single malt (listen to the podcast for details).

We also spend a bit of time chatting about this:

Which is a beetroot pasta I made (kind of). The recipe comes from "The Italian Cookery Course" by Katie Caldesi. The pasta dough itself is pretty straight forward (300g - 00Flour, 2 eggs + 1 egg yolk, 80g blended cooked beetroot). The filling is bacon, red onion, garlic, thyme and ricotta, which is also pretty straight forward.

What wasn't straight forward was combining the two. This is where Dave came in. Basically I invited Dave over for lunch and made him assemble and cook it. I think it worked out for the best, even if it did cover my kitchen in flour.

Also on the menu was a Pot au Feu (Karen Martini recipe), which basically involved chucking a bunch of vegies in a pot of water+stock with a whole chicken. The Gourmet Wife did make the stock from scratch, but possibly the simplest thing we've ever served at one of these podcasty things.

Dave did dessert, and he's assured me it'll be up as a recipe on the website in the near future. I'll also put some pictures and thoughts of The Atlantic up.
